Rubberwood

2024
Primarily crafted from rubberwood, with oak veneer on the seat and back panels, the SCW-H834 is one of the first two chairs I designed for Oliver Corporation, as part of my work as Design Director for the company’s seating division.
The idea was to start the Zero Carbon Furniture program with 2 chairs with very distinctive characters.
Zero Carbon Furniture is designed to achieve ‘net-zero or below’ CO2 emissions throughout its entire lifecycle—spanning material sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, use, and recycling—without relying on carbon credits, all while leveraging the unique properties of rubberwood.
Rubberwood is well suited to this initiative. Sourced from trees that have completed their latex-producing cycle, it minimises waste while storing the carbon absorbed during the tree’s growth.
